Gray Day on the Oregon Coast

Gray Day on the Oregon

Gray days seem to depress most people but not me. They do tend to slow me down a little and I usually need that. I find Gray Days calming and relaxing. I love to take pictures on gray days because I am not fighting with the sun about lighting issues. Also on days that are gray It seems that the tranquility boosts my imagination. Now don't get me wrong I love the sunshine to. But I tend to think I have to get things done right away when the sun is shining. Also I think I am afraid I am going to miss something when the sun is shining. I have found that I am more creative early in the morning and on gray days. O well just my theory.

My friend Dawn http://calysdayatthebeach.blogspot.com/ makes beautiful jewelry that remind me of the ocean. Check out her latest bracelet that's full of the wonderful things the ocean has to offer. I keep hinting about this one. So If you want it you better hurry cause I have an anniversary coming up.

OREGON

OREGON WILD FLOWERS
In the week that I was on the Oregon coast the weather was a dreary gray. Its ok because I can usually gets some pretty good pictures on those days. But it was starting to get a little boring being all gray, rainy and chilly. As I rounded the next bend in the road I found these pert little yellow flowers waving to me. These yellow wild flowers were just to fun to pass them by. Their bright yellow petals against a pretty blue sky just sets a mood for a fun day. I am not sure of their name but the mountains were just covered with them. As I rode down the rode and saw these bright flowers standing tall I just new the sun was coming out and it would be a great day.

Why not brighten someones otherwise dull day by sending them a link to my site or one of my greeting cards .

I have greeting cards and prints of these bright flowers available at TriciaKay.etsy.com

Surreal

A storm was moving in as I traveled Interstate 5. The colors were changing so fast that it was an almost surreal feeling and look.
Of course the sky was at its best in front of a barn. I do think that these old barns are calling me. I alwas manage to come across them wen conditions are right for a good picture

Having traveled a lot in the infamous tornado alley, you can guest what I was thinking. Now storms don't scare me but I respect them. I some times think that I should have been a storm hunter cause I am drawn to them like a magnet. (doesn't make my mother happy) During the last couple of Hurricanes I got some pretty intersting pictures.

This photo was taken in Oregon on Interstate 5. South of Cottage Grove.

How Many Colors Can You Count

This photo of Mother Nature showing off new fall color line reminds me of my elementry school teacher showing us a picture and asking How many colors can you find. Of course in this picture there is no answer because the shades change constantly
When I was in elementary school I had a teacher that would show us a picture and ask how many colors can you count. Well she of course wanted the basic colors but when I look at a picture scene like this I see plenty of greens and reds and browns and yellows so many in fact that there is no way that I can count them unless of course I take a picture and let the computer do that for me. According to my computer the number of colors is 517,550 but then whose counting. While I did not know to appreciate her then. I really appreciate her now. She gave me the ability to see, really see, but the sad part is I am not sure she even knew that she did. But that's Education for you, we all take what we need when we need it. Thank you to all of my teachers.

This photograph was taken on the Natchez Trace in the fall of 2007

This one was just off the coast road in Oregon I really could not tell you how to find it I was just driving and saw a little road and just a little way down that road sat this old weatherd barn.

I have greeting cards and prints of this great old barn available at TriciaKay.etsy.com

Centennial Bridge

My work days are any where from 10 to 14 hours long so I either grab a shot along the way or find them on the way to a hotel or restaurant. I don't get to do a lot of planing so most of my shots are just a matter of being there at the right time. Choosing the right scene and shoot. I have stayed in so many hotels that I just cant stand to go in till dark. So my camera has become my trusty side kick and traveling partner. Anyway I happened onto this Great little town of . The town and surrounding area is full of of covered bridges. In fact it is known as the Covered Bridge Capital of Oregon.

The Centennial Bridge was built in 1987 with timbers recycled from the Burnbaugh Bridge and the Meadows Bridges that were being dismantled. It is 14 feet from the peak of the roof to the ground and it is 10 feet wide. The Centennial bridge was built priamarily by volunteers to honor the 100th birthday of Cottage Grove It is a pedestrian and bicycle bridge with beautiful landscaping on both sides of the bridge.
If you get a chance to go to Cottage Grove makes sure you check out all the bridges. They are a wonderful way to slow down and relax. You will probably come away amazed at the quality of the workmanship since the bridges were built by hand and out of natural materials. I sure left with a better appreciation for the people that built them. I can understand why those folks that have these bridges love them.

The centennial bridge is located at the corner of Main Street and River Road

Recently I had the opportunity to travel the Oregon Coast (a working trip). Although the weather was dreary the scenery was beautiful.
I had a pretty long day so when the clerk at the hotel suggested a restaurant that had an ocean view I jumped at the idea.
When I drove up I was not expecting a lot, since the restaurant was in a just ok looking hotel, but I was really surprised when I was seated at this window. The food was alright but the View was Priceless

Magnolia

Magnolia

Nothing says summer to a southerner than a beautiful fragrant Magnolia (unless of course you want to count the muggy heat) It signals that it is time to gather with friends on the porch to enjoy a glass of ice cold tea or cool refreshing lemon aid.I chose black and white as a medium to remind of those quainter, more relaxing days.

Exploring the Natchez Trace

At thanksgiving we decided to take a trip on the Natchez Trace. We did not just ride on the trace road we explored the Trace. We drove to Jackson, Mississippi to begin our journey. I know the Trace begins in Natchez but we had already done that part in the spring. The weather was perfect. The leaves were perfect and the travel companions were perfect. Do I sound like an advertisement. Its just as a photographer you seldom get all of the elements to work together so well. I was determined to stop at every site so we averaged about 50 miles a day of travel but I took approximately 200 pictures a day. The first photograph to the right is in the parking lot of the welcome center. As you can see the trace was already putting on its fall finery. We were afraid that we had missed the colors this year but I guss the drought and heat had slowed Mother Nature down just a little. Nest stop is just a few miles down the road.

Katrina,Hydrangea,

This photograph was taken in my yard and is very special to me. After Katrina destroyed our homes and our way of life on the Mississippi Coast, a dear sweet lady in South Carolina kinda adopted me. She has a wonderful heart and a love of flowers so she purchased two of these and sent one to me and kept one for herself. She said the when they bloomed we would always know that someone was thinking of us. One morning I opened the door to my FEMA trailer not knowing if I could put one foot in front of the other, the first thing I saw was all these soft blue flowers of the Hydrangea. It was as if this beautiful plant was saying good morning and I knew that I could carry on with the daily rebuilding task because not only was she thinking of me but a whole world was out there thinking of us. This wonderful plant continues to bloom all year but this year its blooms were a very different color. It is now red

Introduction

I know that not everyone can or even likes to travel. But we live in a great big beautiful world. The problem is that our daily live are usually so busy that we miss the small stuff around us. Since I retired I decided to take trips, around the world (maybe one day) or around my state or just around my house and not miss things anymore. I know you are saying but................. ,I too have had my share of hardships in the last few years but I am refusing to let anything get me down for long. I guess I may be returning to my childhood,a time when everything was amazing and wonderful. I also have a terrific coach for this trip, she is my five year old granddaughter that thinks everything is exciting and her Meme can do or create anything. So come travel with me (I will be your tour guide) and my photographs. All aboardddddddddddddddddd. Next stop????????????????where ever we want
